About the band/artist
Dernancourt, South Australia, in the sprawl of working class suburbia is the setting for the roots of Society of Beggars, a rock and roll four piece made up of children of the nineties who above all things value truth, honesty, passion and raw power in their music.

Drawing upon the visceral rhythms of 70's era Rolling Stones, the gut wrenching wail of post-Beatles Lennon and adding a hint of Nirvana and The Strokes for taste, Society of Beggars are a product of a rich and varied musical environment. The Brothers Michalopoulos, (whose own ears were opened from a very young age thanks to a musical lineage from their father Miki, singer with seminal 80's group Vertical Hold), one day realised that their musical talents had caught up with one and another and despite typical brother personality clashes (loud one/quiet one), decided that the fire to create music was something that couldn't be denied. They joined with two childhood friends, and inside the cavern like surroundings of the DiBiase household, poured all their different musical inclinations into a big pot, and stirred.

Society of Beggars has had a big success in their live shows to date. Hitting every stage with a fire and energy that could power a jet engine, the boys have a large solid following of fans, whose dedication is second to none. The band has been locked away in Soundhouse Studios, guns pressed firmly but lovingly against their heads; in order to lay it all down and capture the dynamic spirit of their live shows. They came away with a five track eponymous titled E.P., containing songs that they felt best inducted a discerning ear into the world of Society of Beggars. The band sees itself as a workhorse, powering onwards writing new and different material in every possible productive moment. Our aim is simple; to make real music for real people, without a pretentious agenda. We call it Gonzo Rock. Enjoy.
