OBLONG is an independent solo-outfit from the Philippines that plays a fusion of melodic lo-fi indie sound and pop music. Raw, whiny, and melancholic. Sometimes off-tuned but sweet guitars, flashed with occassional beats and cheap, bitter-sweet words.
On July, 2007, OBLONG released its debut EP, "Sarah, sing me to sleep" under its own independent label, Doll Moment Productions. The EP includes early singles like "Monday" and Tahan Na".
OBLONG then recorded a new single last December, 2007 entitled "Lullabye". It was eventually released by Nokia Corporation and Independent Artists Club (IAC) on March of 2008 through an independent compilation promo CD called "Tastemakers Feast", along with other kick-ass songs from other well-respected indie artists like Food Shelter And Clothing, Skies of Ember, Emorej, Black Gulaman, and more.
After a few months of hiatus, OBLONG, together with another indie act, Death To Puberty, released a Split EP on-line for free download last July, 2008. It was called "Lo-Fi Encounters". The EP features primitive efforts from the two artists. It includes OBLONG's unexperienced demos from years 1998 upto 2000. Tracks featured in here like "What U Really Mean", "All We Need is", and "French Kiss" project an exciting history of OBLONG's beginnings.
OBLONG is Mark dela Cruz. Currently writing and recording new materials for its next album and shows to come.
